risk : the Protagonist, any of the equiptment or the person filming falls into water

How to avoid : for the protagonist and the filmer to avoid falling into water, make sure that everyone on set is only walking to avoid slipping or tripping, make sure shoe laces are tied.

to avoid any equiptment from falling into water, make sure tripod, equipment for music is as far away from water as possible and that camera, if in use, is securely held with hand between strap and camera (if camera includes strap) and make sure camera is securely on the tripod if needed.

Risk : the Protagonist falling off bicycle

How to avoid : this could be avoided with protagonist riding bicycle slowly and to make sure the path the protagonist is riding down has no obsticals in the way. also make sure the protagonist always has both hand on the handles of the bicycle.

Location shots

i have chosen each of these locations for my music video as i feel that the locations each give a sense of relaxation to the audience. i have chosen to use rural areas in my music video as i fell that more quiet areas ties in with the lyrics of the song and also shows more of a sense of beauty to the song. 



i have chosen locations with water as i believe that this gives the most sense of relaxation towards the audience. due to the locations, there could be a health risk with the protagionist falling into the water, so the protagonist and i will try to avoid these risks by staying away from the edge of the water and only to walk whilst filming at this location.


i will use these 2 shots mainly as establishing shots to show to the audience what sort of setting the music video would be in. i have decided to show a landscape as i believe that this would also give a relaxing feeling to the audience. with this location i could have a shot of the musical artist lying on the grond as this shows relaxation.

Storyboard - Coursework

before i started to design a storyboard, i started by listening to the song 'Have a nice Day' first to gain inspiration. Whilst listening to the song i gained the feeling of relaxation from the song. From this i decided that this feeling would be what i wanted the audience to feel while watching the video. Another feeling i got was that the whole music video should be in a rural area, as an urban setting wouldn't give the feeling of relaxation as urban areas are quite loud and busy. i did this with shots of rural areas to give the audience more of a feeling of relaxation. Due to the storyboard i concluded that the only prop that would be needed in the entire music video would be a bicycle for the protagonist to ride.

My chosen song and protagonist

THE SONG
the song that i have chosen to use for my music video coursework is 'have a nice day' by Stereophonics. i have chosen to use this song as i had an basic idea of where the music video should be set. whilst listening to the song, i decided that the music video should be set in a rural like area and the lighting should be natural.

THE PROTAGONIST
the artist that i have chosen to include in my music video would be Jacob Irons, i have chosen this person for my protagonist as i feel that he could connect with the target audience as he is the same age as the audience, another way that i feel the protagonist would connect with the audience would be the hair style that he has and the clothes he wears.

Key Concepts - Music video

With music video theory, there a four key concepts that must be tought about:

Representation:
-Who or what will be represented in the music video?
in my music video, i want my protagonist to be viewed by the audience as a modern and 'cool' musician.

-in what way do you want the audience to respond to them, see them, feel about them?
i want my audience to really connect with the protagonist, as the clothes he wears and the age he is would be similar to that of the audience, (skinny jeans, plain shirts ect). due to these similarities i want the audience to feel that the protagonist is 'One of them' and not so much as an idol to audiences.

Media Language:
-How will you make the audience feel this way?
i will make the audience feel that the protagonist is 'one of them' firstly by the way that audience is roughly the same age as the protagonist so the audience can connect with them. another way to get the audience to have this feeling is as there will not be many high angle shots in the music video so it wouldn't seem like the audience are looking up at the protagonist, and most of the camera shots would be eye-level with the protagonist so that it seems the protagonist is singing to up and not down at you. i also will make the audience feel this way due to the setting that i have chosen to use. i have decided to use rural areas for my music video so that it seems that the setting is somewhere the audience could be in, instead of expensive buildings, clean streets ect. also with setting, i want most of the lighting in the music video to be natural as i believe that the music video would then look more realistic and so will connect more with the audience.

Audience:
-Who is your target audience?
i have decided that the target audience for my music video will be Teenagers around the age of 16-17. the audience should listen to indie genre of music. the style of clothing that my audience would wear is skinny jeans, vans/converse shoes and a plain/colourful shirt. this would basically be the style of clothing that my protagonist would wear.

-Why is it important that your artist is represented this way in relation to your audience?
i think that it is important that my artist is represented this way as i don't want the artists to be shown as an artist by the audience, i have shown this with the artist being the same age as the audience and basically wearing the same style of clothes.

Genre:
-how does your representation link to the genre of your music video?
i think that the representation of my artist links to the genre of the music because of the look that my protagonist will have in the music video (hair style, clothes). the style that my protagonist will have will also be similar to the style of most artist of this genre.

Busted music video - Post-Production

When I went onto the macs to start the editing. Dan and I decided that the first thing that we should do was to get the song onto Imovie so that we knew when the lip syncing should take place. As we had forgotten the order of each shot, i went onto youtube to understand the order of shots and also to find out how long each shot was. Straight away Dan and I had a problem which was that the lip syncing of the first verse was out of time. we overcame this by cutting down some of the shots before the first verse and also cutting a bit off the beginning of the shot of me lip syncing. after this we decided that all the long shots of the music video should be sorted first so that we knew when each action during a shot matched to the music. after doing this we started to add all the short shots inbetween the larger shots so that we wouldn't have any blank spaces inbetween shots. after doing this we realised that some of the lip syncing was out of sync, we had overcame this problem by cutting out irrelevent parts out of small shots, this made most of the music video look in sync apart from the shot of the first vocal lines, which was unable to be corrected perfectly.

Busted music video - production

For the start of the production, the class had decided to start the music video in the outside setting. one of our first problems were that after the jump, the three 'band members' were just standing there and not moving about, so we had to liven up the movement of the 'band members'. we started to have problems such as getting the timing of the jumps right with Jack, Dan and myself as sometime we jumped out of time with each other. this complication kept on appearing as we found out that there were that the three 'band members' needed to jump everytime the chorus of the song said 'school'.

the second time the chorus said 'school', the 'band members' had to jump and the move towards the camera. This made me cautious as i then wouldn't know if i was out of view of the camera. another time that i was cautious about this was when i move towards the camera, bend down and cross my arms, this was basically bacause the camera didn't move and i didn't want any part of my body out of view. A risk that i thought might be a problem would be the guitars, as all the 'band members' had the neck of the guitar on the left side of them i thought that the neck of the guitar could hit someone, either another 'band member' or one of tancers behind us if the 'band members' jumped and lost control of the instrument.

For the next lesson, the class had decided to film the inside part of the music video. we started by shooting one-second shots such as turning off the lights or the writing on the white board. we had to work around the blackboard shot by replacing it with a whiteboard as that is all we had in the classroom.after these shots we started shooting shots of the teacher's (Becky Baker) eyes. we had to keep on doing some of these shots as Becky kept on losing focus and laughed during the filming of her. For the shots of me singing the first verse of the song, we decided to do a long shot of me singing the whole verse without stopping, even though there will be different shots between me singing this verse. this was done so that it would save time and i wouldn't have to keep lip syncing the lyrics.

There were also some mistakes during the shots of me, for example, when Becky was supposed to give me some paper, Becky kept on holding onto the paper so she couldn't give me the sheet. another time during this shot was when i accidentally lost my grip of the paper but then grasped the sheet again. one of the shots that i felt would be difficult to shoot would be when Jack pushes through Dan and myself to sing his line. i thought that this would be difficult as we had to start in the back of the room where everyone was crowded round, also the room was quite small so we had to be careful not to get pushed into a desk or another student.
